Father’s Day is approaching on June 18th, so it’s time to start thinking about a gift or two. Instead of the usual tie or cuff links, go above and beyond this year with DIY Father’s Day gifts. We’ve got some easy-to-make DIY Father’s Day gifts that your dad didn’t even know he needed. Nothing says “I love you” like a homemade gift.
DIY Grill Set Holder
Not all DIY Father’s Day gifts are tough to make. Give your dad something that makes grilling more fun and organized: a DIY grill set holder. What’s handy about this project is it can be used indoors or out! Hang it inside as décor when the weather is gloomy and outdoors in warmer weather when he’s grilling up a storm. Your dad will love showing off this gift!
For this gift, you’ll need:
- Wood (like fence panels that are light-weight and weather resistant)
- Spray paint
- Aging solution
- Knobs (a style you think will best fit your dad’s)
- Vinyl or stencils for the wording
- Spray polyurethane

DIY Bottle Opener
A very simple gift that your dad will use all the time is DIY bottle opener. This might be one of our favorite DIY Father’s Day gifts because of its simplicity and usefulness! This gift is not only great for opening bottles, but also saves time cleaning caps up after parties.
- Cedar fence plank (three 4” pieces, one 6” piece, and one 21” piece)
- Hand saw
- Wood glue
- Finishing nails
- Bottle opener
- Metal brackets (optional)
To assemble this gift, start by gluing the bottle-catching box together (see plank sizes above) and then glue the 21” plank to the back of it. Drill the bottle opener to the top and the metal brackets on the box if desired.

DIY Citronella Candles
Father’s Day is during warmer weather perfect for outdoor gatherings and parties. Give you dad masculine citronella candles to keep bugs away while he enjoys company. For the candles, you’ll need:
- Quart size paint cans
- Candle wax (unscented)
- Citronella essential oil
There’s not many simpler DIY Father’s Day gifts than this. Start by gluing the wick to the bottom of the paint can and tying the other end to a pencil laying on the top of the can horizontally. Melt the wax and pour it in the paint can until full. Add about 15-20 drops of the citronella oil, then let the wax harden and cut the wick!
All the projects above are versatile, meaning you can change the look and materials to personalize it for your dad. These DIY Father’s Day gifts are quick easy to make, so make more than one and really put a smile on his face. Get crafting and make this Father’s Day one he won’t forget!
