For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • 2 cups vegetable stock
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt, or more to taste
  • 1 carrot, peeled and diced
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper, or more to taste
  • 1 Granny Smith Apple, cored and diced
  • 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne, or more to taste
  • 1 medium (uncooked) butternut squash, peeled, seeded and diced
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon and nutmeg
  • 1 sprig fresh sage
  • ½ cup canned (unsweetened) coconut milk
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • Optional garnishes: extra coconut milk and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper (or smoked paprika)

Mix the vegetable stock, garlic, carrot, apple, squash, sage, onion, salt, pepper, cayenne, cinnamon and nutmeg in a slow cooker. Cook for 6-8 hours on low or 3-4 hours on high. Take out the sage and stir in the coconut milk. Use a blender to puree the mixture.

Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken Wings

Fall means football, and what goes better with football than wings? These are an autumn staple that will please any crowd. The recipe we found, from Good Dinner Mom, features fall-off-the-bone barbecue wings that are sure to be a fast fall favorite. Get ready for game day and make some easy crockpot wings!

For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 4 lbs. chicken wings and drummettes, or chicken drumsticks, trimmed
  • 1 tbsp dry mustard
  • 1.5 cups barbecue sauce, divided
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • Vegetable oil spray
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder

This recipe uses a slow cooker and an oven, but the oven is just to get the wings super crispy! First mix sugar, paprika, mustard, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt and pepper together. Mix together in a large bag. Add the wings to the bag and shake until coated. Put wings in the slow cooker and pour ½ cup of barbecue sauce over the wings to coat. Cook 3-4 hours on low for wings and 4-6 hours on low for drumsticks.

Last but not least, a crockpot dessert. Yes, you can make dessert in a slow cooker too! Nothing says fall like the scent of apples and cinnamon permeating through the air. This recipe, from 12 Tomatoes, looks tasty and may be the simplest way to make a dessert. The days of slaving over the mixing bowl and watching the oven to make sure your crisp doesn’t burn are over.

For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • 6 cups tart apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts, optional
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cold butter
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

To make this apple crisp, mix the sliced apples in a bowl with the cinnamon. Spray your slow cooker with nonstick spray and put the apples in. Mix the brown sugar, flour and oats in a bowl. Cut the butter into pieces and mix, using a fork, into the sugar mixture until crumbly. Add walnuts here if you’d like. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the apples and cook on low for 3 hours. Spoon the crisp onto a plate and serve with ice cream. Yum!
