Homemade Apple Cider Recipes for Fall

It’s finally fall. The leaves are changing and the air has that cool, crisp scent. The best part of fall is the variety of flavors that come with it. One of our favorite autumn flavors is apple cider. Apple cider is the perfect blend of refreshing and comforting during the cooler seasons. We scoured the web looking for the most delectable apple cider recipes and we’re very excited (or should we say “excidered“) to share them with you!

Traditional Homemade Apple Cider

The first recipe we found is one of the more traditional apple cider recipes out there. This warm drink is ideal for a chilly fall night. Sally’s Baking Addiction recommends using a slow cooker to make this cider. Cooking the ingredients on low heat for an extended period of time helps meld the mixture of flavors together. This drink will warm you right up!

For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • 1 orange
  • 10 medium apples (use a variety)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks (or 1 tbsp ground cinnamon)
  • 2 tsp ground cloves
  • Granulated sugar

You’ll also need a slow cooker and a fine mesh sieve to strain the cider. To make the cider, peel the orange and wash and cut the apples. Put the fruit in the slow cooker and add the cinnamon, cloves and sugar. Add enough water to submerge the fruit. Cook on low heat for 6-7 hours then strain the liquid.

Caramel Apple Cider Float

As far as apple cider recipes go, this one is pretty original. While it may not have the same warming effect as the more traditional cider, this float has the same fall flavor we all know and love. A cider float is perfect for the transition time between summer and fall, before it gets too cold outside. Celebrating Sweets introduced us to this clever adaptation of cider and we have to say – we’re huge fans!

For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • 1 quart of vanilla ice cream
  • A bottle of sparkling cider
  • Caramel sauce
  • Whipped cream

Scoop the ice cream into mugs and drizzle with caramel sauce. Pour the cider over the mixture and top with whipped cream.

Caramel Apple Sangria

This is another very original recipe, so we had to share. This drink, from The Wholesome Dish, doesn’t fall into the category of apple cider recipes that will warm you in the winter, but it sounded too good not to share! This sangria would be good for a fall brunch or an outdoor picnic because you don’t have to worry about keeping it warm, but it has the apply flavor we all crave in the fall.

For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • A 750ml bottle of pinot grigio (or your favorite mild white wine)
  • 1 cup caramel flavored vodka
  • 6 cups of cider (you could even make and chill the cider from Sally’s Baking Addiction!)
  • 2 medium apples, cored and chopped

To make this sangria, combine the wine, vodka and cider in a pitcher. Add the chopped apples and serve over ice. So easy!
