Instead of having the usual gingerbread cookies or cinnamon buns, we wanted to highlight some new spins on cinnamon. We found sweet cinnamon recipes and savory cinnamon recipes, so you can have cinnamon from appetizers to dessert! Get ready to spice things up with these fun, innovative dishes.

Cinnamon Roasted Butternut Squash

We’re offering a savory cinnamon recipe right off the bat. Not only is cinnamon a go-to flavor during winter, but hearty vegetables, like butternut squash are too! This recipe, from Chew Out Loud, combines two incredibly warming flavors to create a side dish that is guaranteed to please. Not only is it tasty, but this dish only requires six ingredients! It’s simple, its quick, and it’s tasty. You’ll keep this in your repertoire of cinnamon recipes for winters to come.

Tip: Chew Out Loud also suggests using this squash as part of a tasty salad, if you’re looking to create a healthy, but hearty, dish.

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • A  large butternut squash, peeled, seeded and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 Tbsp packed brown sugar

Cinnamon Cream Cheese Rollups

Alright, now we’re getting to the pastries. A post about cinnamon recipes wouldn’t be complete without a mouthwatering dessert (or breakfast).  Lil’ Luna says these are a weekend favorite in her household. Not only do the kids love eating these, but the recipe is so simple that they can help out in the kitchen too! With only six ingredients and a 20-minute bake time, these rollups are the perfect family-friendly cinnamon treat.

  • 1 loaf of thin white bread
  • 2/3 bar of cream cheese (8 oz. bar), softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup butter, melted
