If you love taking long, warm baths after a tiresome week, give bath bombs a try. Bath bombs fill your bathtub with colorful bubbles and fizz adding an extra layer of relaxation to your bath. And yes, you can purchase bath bombs at a store, but why not make your own? These DIY bath bombs are great gifts for birthdays, holidays and more!
Gather the Ingredients
DIY bath bombs require few ingredients, but they probably aren’t lying around your house in the quantities you’ll need. By picking up your own ingredients and making the bath bombs, you’ll save money while being able to customize scents and colors.
The basic ingredients you’ll need for DIY bath bombs are below:
- Baking soda
- Corn starch
- 2 oz. citric acid
- 2 oz. Epsom salt
- 1 – 1 ½ tsp. water
- A teaspoon of essential oil
- 1 ¼ tsp. oil (coconut or olive oil are great options)
- About 2 drops food coloring of your choice
Remember to think about how many you’ll be making so that you don’t run out of ingredients. Once you gather everything, measure out and whisk the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Then, add as much or as little food coloring as you’d like. You can also try dry pigment, like Inspired by Charm did above. Separately, mix the wet ingredients together in a cup to then slowly incorporate with the dry ingredients.
Now you’re ready to pack the mixture into molds. Let the filled molds sit for at least 24 hours before gifting and/or using. Once you get the hang of it, you can then have some fun with the different colors, shapes and scents!
Customize Your DIY Bath Bombs
Do you have a friend’s birthday coming up? Or maybe, you want to give a basket of bath bombs to your mom for Mother’s Day. Luckily, DIY bath bombs are perfect for any gift or occasion made special with a personal, customized touch.
Customize the colors with food coloring, the shape with molds and the scent with essential oils! There are plenty of molds you can purchase to match the theme you’re going for. And for essential oils, you’ll get a better sense of the scents if you go to the store and smell them yourself.
