A Dump Cake for Any Occasion

Need a dessert in a hurry? Dump cakes are insanely easy to make and perfect when you’re in a rush. First, let’s discuss the name. While “dump cake” may not sound super appetizing, trust us, they are. The name comes from the way you make these treats: dump the ingredients into a pan, mix and bake. These simple desserts are guaranteed to please anyone with a sweet-tooth. Ready, set, dump.

Banana Split Dump Cake

Lemon Tree Dwelling is bringing us a new spin on a classic. This dump cake has everything you could ever want in a dessert: chocolate, fruit, cake and whipped cream. Not only does this dessert have everything, it’s also so easy to make!

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 21 oz. can strawberry pie filling
  • 1 package of white cake mix, dry
  • 20 oz. can crushed pineapple (don’t drain)
  • 1 stick of margarine
  • ½ cup crushed nuts
  • 1 cup shaved coconut
  • For topping: sliced bananas, whipped cream, chocolate syrup

To make this dump cake, layer the fruit at the bottom of a 9×13” cake pan, top with the cake mix then add the melted margarine. Put coconut and nuts on top and bake at 325 degrees for 60-75 minutes.

German Chocolate Dump Cake

Say “auf wiedershen” to boring desserts. This German chocolate cake is the pinnacle of decadence. The author of Let’s Dish even refers to this recipes as her “favorite dump cake ever!” Time to break out the chocolate.

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
  • ½ cup chopped pecans, divided
  • 1 box devils food cake mix plus cake-making ingredients
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips

To make this dump cake, grease a 9/13” baking pan and sprinkle the bottom with coconut and 1 cup of chopped pecans. Make the cake mix according to the packaging and pour over the coconut and pecans. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, butter, vanilla and salt until smooth. Beat in the powdered sugar and stir in the chocolate chips and remaining pecans. Dollop the cream cheese mix over the cake batter and gently swirl with a knife. Bake for 35-40 minutes.

Blueberry Dump Cake

For something simple and summery we turned to Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom. This blueberry dump cake couldn’t be easier to make. In fact, it’s so easy that the author, Jamie, says she made this dessert when she was too tired to make the dessert she had originally planned.

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 21 oz. can of blueberry pie filling
  • 1 large can crushed pineapple, drained
  • ½ cup shredded coconut (optional)
  • 1 stick of butter

To make this recipe spread the blueberry pie filling at the bottom of a 9.5×13” cake pan. Next, spread the pineapples over the pie filling. Top with the shredded coconut and ¾ of the blueberries. Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the fruit. Melt ¾ of the stick of butter and drizzle over the cake mix. Thinly slice the rest of the butter and randomly place over any dry cake mix that’s still showing. Toss the rest of the blueberries on top. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden brown.

How easy is that? Dump cakes are the perfect solution when you’re in a rush, but need a treat. In fact, they’re so simple, you could let the kids take the reins when they want to make a dump cake. Basically all you need is pie filling, dry cake mix and some butter and you can whip up a dump cake in under an hour. Enjoy!
