Spring is here! Warmer weather, longer days and blossoming flowers are on the horizon. We know you want to take advantage of this beautiful season, so we are providing some fun family activities to do in the spring. With new plants sprouting and the warm sunshine finally making an appearance, outdoor activities are always a fun-go to in the spring. Don’t worry, we know there are those rainy days as well so we’ll provide sunny day activities as well as a fun rainy day activity.
NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT
One way to get your kiddos to enjoy the great outdoors is to send them on a nature scavenger hunt! Not only does this adventure get your kids running around outside instead of holed up in front of the television, but it’s a simple activity to put together – and one that you can keep an eye on from afar!
Come up with a list of ten to fifteen items for them to find outside, such as a smooth rock or a chewed up leaf. Make sure to give them a bag to put their items in so they can carry it all home to show you their finds. Want to amp up the fun? Come up with a special fun prize for the first person to cross off everything on their list.
Check out the Taylor House for more details on coming up with a spring-themed scavenger hunt.
BOARD GAMES…ON THE DECK!
Now this is a cool idea from Design Dazzle: forget boring board games you play at your dining room table – now you can turn your deck or patio into the ultimate competition!
Not only will you and your family have a blast coming up with the game, but it’s super easy to make and washes off in the rain. Your kids will be begging to create this outdoor board game every time spring rolls around!
What you’ll need:
- A pair of wood dice made from 4×4 lumber
- Masking tape
- Different activities to make playable on the board

DIY BOUNCY BALLS
Stuck inside on a rainy day? Try making your own bouncy balls! Creating the balls themselves is the perfect family time activity and they’re sure to provide your kids with fun for days on end.
What you’ll need:
- Warm water
- Food coloring
- Elmer’s Glue
- …Or a kit from Target or a craft store!
My Frugal Adventures goes over two different ways to make these bouncing balls of joy, so experiment with both to see which method works best for your family. Enjoy!
With springtime finally here, it’s time to get outside and enjoy it! Any of these ideas would be a fun family activity to do outside in the backyard or even in the park with a nice picnic. Take advantage of this beautiful season because winter will be back before you know it!
