Green Smoothie Recipes for a Health-Packed 2019

Now that the festivities and excitement of New Year’s Eve have calmed down, it’s time to really start focusing on those resolutions! Some of the most popular resolutions people are make are things like: loose weight, go to the gym more, eat less sugar or drink more water. All of these can be summed up into one goal – to get healthier! One way to give yourself an extra boost of health is by adding a green smoothie to your daily diet. The color may be unappealing to some, but the bright green hue of these smoothies comes from leafy greens and veggies that are packed with nutrients. So, get ready to quench your thirst with three recipes for tasty, healthy smoothies that will help you kick-start, and stick-with, your 2019 resolutions!

Banana, Mango and Avocado Green Smoothie

One way to add a vibrantly-colored green smoothie to the mix is by using avocados. Avocados are high in monounsaturated fat (aka – the good fat) which lowers bad cholesterol. Avocados also have a creamy, buttery texture which give your smoothie a luscious texture. Combining avocado with sweet bananas and mangos adds natural sweetness to complement the avocado.

Emilie Eats recommends freezing the fruits and veggies in this recipe beforehand for an even smoother consistency. She also adds a drop of stevia and a dash of vanilla for additional sweetness without having to add calories (since avocados are on the calorie-heavy side).

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 banana, frozen
  • ½ medium avocado
  • 1 cup mango chunks, frozen
  • Splash of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup spinach
  • Few drops of stevia extract or other sweetener (optional)
  • 1 cup almond milk or other non-dairy milk

Combine ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth! For more information, click here.

Pineapple and Spinach Green Smoothie

This next green smoothie gets its color solely from spinach. The last smoothie did have a cup of spinach as well, but the avocado was the overpowering green color. This recipe, from Garnish and Glaze, only relies on the rich antioxidant-evident green hue of spinach.

Without avocado, this smoothie needs something that will give it that creamy, unctuous texture: Greek yogurt. Packed with protein and richer than regular yogurt, Greek yogurt is the perfect smoothie add-in. A tip from Garnish and Glaze: if you are using frozen fruit, use ½ cup of liquid instead of just ¼ cup.

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 cup pineapple
  • ¼-1/2 cup apple juice (or skim milk)
  • 1 banana
  • 2/3 cup low-fat vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach, packed
  • Ice (optional)

Put all the ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth! For more information, click here.

Coconut Tea Green Smoothie

This green smoothie, from Oh So Delicioso, is a bit different because the liquid included in the recipe is tea! This recipe is perfect as an all-in-one morning pick-me-up because of the hint of caffeine. The recipe calls for Coconut Lime tea to give the drink a pina-colada flavor – yum!

Another difference in this recipe is the addition of protein powder. The second recipe had Greek yogurt, which has a lot of protein, but the first recipe didn’t have any dairy. While the healthy fats in avocado will fill you up, protein will keep you satiated for a longer period of time. Try adding protein powder to the first recipe for a more substantial smoothie.

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • A handful of spinach
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple
  • A banana
  • 1 cup Takuya Coconut Lime tea
  • A scoop protein powder

Combine ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth! For more information about this recipe and Takuya tea, click here.

So don’t let the work of meal prepping and dieting scare you away from a healthier 2019 – make a smoothie. Green smoothies are an easy way to have a quick, nutrient-packed meal. These recipes are sweet and light and, because of the vibrant colors, you’ll feel healthier just for holding them! With these recipes you’ll puree your way to a green smoothie addiction.
