St. Patrick’s Day Desserts

It’s finally March! That means it’s time to break out the shamrocks and pots of gold because St. Patty’s Day is right around the corner. Whether you’re having a big celebration or just keeping it mellow, making St. Patrick’s Day desserts will get you in the holiday spirit.  Don’t worry, not every recipe requires green food coloring. (Rainbows are also a huge part of St. Patrick’s Day.) Lucky for you, we found some festive desserts to help you celebrate St. Patty’s Day.

Shamrock Shake Macarons

We chose to highlight these macarons, from Baking a Moment, in our collection of St. Patrick’s Day desserts because they’re so delicate and versatile. These treats would be perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day party, or for any time of year. They aren’t overtly St. Patty’s Day themed, which makes this recipe a good one to hang on to year-round.

The first ingredient in this recipe is “basic macaron shells” tinted leaf green. For any other time of year, you could get shells that aren’t green.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 batch basic macaron shells, tinted leaf green
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
  • About 30 maraschino cherries, drained rinsed and blotted dry

Lucky Charm Marshmallow Rice Krispies

Okay, now we can get into a more festive dessert. We added this to our list of St. Patrick’s Day desserts because they’re fun, bright and kids will love them. Lucky Charms is the obvious choice for a St. Patty’s Day cereal, so using it in a dessert is brilliant. The Baking Chocolatess even called them “magically delicious.”

What you’ll need:

  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 5 oz plus 2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 5 cups Lucky Charms
  • Optional rainbow sprinkles

As you can see, not all St. Patrick’s Day desserts have to include teeth-dying green food coloring. The desserts we selected are simple, fun and festive, without any of the over-the-top color. Have fun eating these tasty treats and celebrating St. Patty’s day!
